Coming up: French Film Festival

Our highly anticipated French Film Festival is rapidly approaching. The opening ceremony is just a few days away, happening on July 30. We'll be showing the film Hello Goodbye and serving an assortment of traditional French pastries and other traditional French culinary pleasures, such as wine, coq au vin, beef bourguignon, lobster bisque, nicoise sald, potato souffle, and for dessert, profiteroles.

Over the course of the festival we'll be showing the films Grown Ups, Dernier Maquis, Jean de la Fontaine, L'Heure Zero, Welcome, Le Chant des Mariees, Dans la Vie, Captaine Achab, and L'emmerdeu. And we'll also be following Cinema Paradiso tradition with our monthly kid's event FAB! Films for Kids, which will feature the beautiful classic french film The Red Balloon, and will be completely FREE! Our monthly Cafe Cinematheque brunch will also have a french touch, featuring the film Kings & Queens, and serving traditional French pastries.

On August 2nd, join us for the Festival's closing night, when we'll show the film L'emmerdeu, and have an assortment of delicious chocolates, baguettes, cheeses, pates, crudites, cold cuts, and a chocolate fountain accompanied by fruits and cakes.

And if you like all of these events you might be interested in purchasing a French Film Festival Fast Pass, which will grant you access to all the films and parties, as well as free Perrier water throughout the festival, and a special identification card. If you become a member, this pass would cost you only $55, and the most basic membership we offer costs $70 yearly, so if you become a member, this Fast Pass practically pays for itself!

Tell all your friends and come and enjoy French culture at Cinema Paradiso!

Coming Up: Cafe Cinematheque

Join us on Sunday, July 12, for our newest monthly tradition at Cinema Paradiso! Twice a month we meet with film expert Shelly Isaacs for food, film, and rare insite into the world of World Cinema. Along with Cafe Cinematheque International, the evening version "Senses of Cinema" is become a Cinema Paradiso favorite.

About Cafe Cinematheque International
Doors open at 10:00am for Brunch and Coffee - A discussion with program host Shelly Isaacs follows the film.

This month's film
Viva Laldjerie

(2004 / Algeria / Nadir Mokneche)
This is a story of old and young in Algeria told through a mother and daughter hiding out in a hotel from local terrorists. We follow pretty Goucem (Lubna Azabal), 27, through the urban landscape of modern-day Algiers as she attempts to assert her own version of a liberated lifestyle. She battles daily with the conflict of a new Algiers; pitting traditional life against the rapidly modernizing city. Goucem is contrasted by her more traditional mother, Papicha played by Biyouna who is an ex-singer longing for her cabaret and for an Algeria of days gone by. Fifi (Nadia Kaci), the women's neighbor at the hotel, adds more color to this story as an energetic prostitute who keeps herself busy with wealthy men twenty- four hours a day.

At 10am join us for brunch, inspired by the film. Algeria Is Located In Northern Africa On The Mediterranean Sea, The Land Of Couscous, Dates, Figs, Olives, Spices Such As Cumin & Coriander And The Famous Sahara Dessert. However, With The French Invasion In 1830, Baguettes And Cauliglower Gratin Are Still Presnt In Its Cuisine. Come And Enjoy Some Chlada Fakya (Fruit Medley), Algerian Cooked Carrot Salad, Cucumber and yogurt soup, Saffron and Raisin Couscous with Fresh Mint, and other surprises.

A post film discussion will be facilitated by Shelly Issacs, who teaches foreign language film appreciation from cultural and historical perspectives, at Florida International University, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute.

General admission is $10, FLIFF Members $8.

The first Cinema a la Mode, took place on Wednesday, July 1st @ 6pm @ Cinema Paradiso with an incredible and supportive crowd attending, members, general public, friends and volunteers making it a very special & fun night. The whole idea of this cooking class is not only to show how a recipe is down but mainly for the public to interact directly with the chef and be part of a culinary experience. this time around the host/chef Michelle prepared spinach crepes, zucchini crepes, cheese crepes, and chocolate/strawberry crepes with the help of audience members. So much fun that even prizes were given away through out the course of the nigh. A taste of France on our own stage filmed by Neil Hecker from channel 2. And what better to end this event followed by the screening of "CHOCOLAT". Thank you all for your love and see you next month to learn how to make paella and see a movie from Spain.

MAY THE KING OF POP LIVE FOREVER!!!

A true legend has died @ the age of 50, in Los Angeles, CA after a cardiac arrest. However, I will always remember Michael Jackson as the greatest pop entertainer of the world, with the best selling album of all times, "THRILLER", listening to the "BAD", album, listening to all his awesome songs growing up, wow he was amazing and will always be. Then the song "MAN IN THE MIRROR", a real message in the song and video. The moonwalk, even when he was in the JACKSON 5, I remember watching the cartoons. So I definitely grew up with the music, life and moves of Michael Jackson, an icon for all generations!!!
